Let’s continue our international travel through the kitchen! Last week I shared a Norwegian style pastry with you guys. In continuing with our travel plans, I bring you Pasteis de Nata! These are yummy Portuguese style custard tarts that are dangerously easy to eat, since they’re bite sized and made with an easy homemade puff pastry! I actually have a little bit of history with this dessert! I first tried these pastries about a decade ago when I visited Portugal. At the time, I was definitely not into baking, and so I just enjoyed eating a couple (or 10) of…

“Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like” -Mark Twain Well that sure is some pleasant advice! What if I like eating pie? Can I eat all the pie?? The perfect solution – bake mini galettes, throw in some fruit, and it’s kinda healthy too, right? 🙂 What is a galette? This is a French term for, usually, a flat, round, flaky pastry, often made of pie crust, but baked without a pie pan. It can be savory or sweet – and this one is definitely sweet! This galette recipe includes loquats, which…

“Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you!” More like so are these cute little meringues! So there are 3 types of meringue – French, Swiss, and Italian. These are based on the Swiss kind, because the egg whites are heated over a double boiler. Anywho, I definitely recommend making these because they’re easy to make, Fat Free (!), can be eaten as a cookie on their own, or used to decorate cookies and cupcakes. They’re perfect for any old day, or a special day, like a bridal shower, wedding, or anything pretty!…

When life gives you oranges…make orange juice! (and then use it to bake? Is that how it goes?) This weekend seemed like a good time to finally put all those oranges from the orange tree we have to use. I had recently bought some fresh cranberries (too many fresh cranberries) and decided if the two work well together in a cranberry relish on Thanksgiving, why shouldn’t they work well together in a nice little bundt cake? So that’s what I did. Only I still had a LOT of cranberries left over. I thought…perfect…two bundt cakes! But then this funny…
